The Salesians of Don Bosco East Africa Province (AFE) have been operating in East Africa since 1980, namely in Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan and South Sudan. Sudan and South Sudan together is a semi-independent entity of the Province.

Don Bosco Kakuma belongs to the world wide society of Salesians of Don Bosco (www.sdb.org) founded by St. John Bosco (1815-1888) in Italy which today operates in about 140 countries. The main activities of their works are geared towards the human and intellectual formation of young people. Don Bosco Kakuma started in 1993 and it is an educational and charitable institution owned and administered by the Salesians of Don Bosco Eastern Africa (www.donboscoeastafrica.org). It has an established presence in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana County in the diocese of Lodwar.

Our vision

Don Bosco Kakuma is a centre of hope and transformation that serves the youth in the camp and the local community to be self-reliant and regain their dignity under the charismatic style of Don Bosco that advances justice, peace and integrity of creation.

Our mission

To prepare and implement sustainable programs for young people in vocational training and human development skills so that they may become good citizens and people of God in their respective countries.

It is with this aim in mind that Don Bosco Kakuma gives a solid basis to underprivileged young men and women to help themselves and their families today and in the future.

Don Bosco Kakuma has various activities run and administered by the Salesians together with other Management team. The activities are:

•The Don Bosco Technical Institute

• The Holy Cross Parish

• The Don Bosco Youth Centre

• The Savio Club

Don Bosco Kakuma has worked with the refugees since 1993 as a UNHCR implementing partner in Technical training courses. The institute empowers refugees from different Nations i.e. Congo, Somalia, Burundi, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda and the host community (Kenya) with knowledge and skills that help them secure employment opportunities and also start small businesses for self-sustainability.
