The program is named ‘Savio Club’ in honour of St Dominic Savio a student of St John Bosco, whose values are the pillar and the aspiration of all the children and each one involved in the program.

Savio Club is a school complementary program for children in lower primary school. The program is under the Holy Cross Parish Kakuma Refugee Camp. The target group is children in Class Two and Class Three aged 8-12 years. Currently the program is ongoing in six substation centres, all in the church compounds of the Holy Cross Parish Outstations. They include; Holy Cross, Christ the King, St. Peter & Paul, St John Bosco, Mary Help of Christians and St Daniel Comboni. The total number of the current Savio Club members is 750 children.

Objectives of Savio Club

  1. To enable the children to speak and express themselves clearly in English and Kiswahili.
  2. To enable the children to read and write in English and Kiswahili and to enhance numeracy. Supplementary classes are taken for Mathematics, English and Kiswahili.
  3. To teach and help the children to pray and learn the Bible at their level.
  4. To enhance and encourage the children to adapt and practice good hygiene habits.
  5. To create a friendly environment to help the children interact harmoniously with each other and have fun while learning.

The Club consists of children from different nationalities namely, Sudan, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda.
